Session 17
Jartha dressed as the Knight, Lux dressed as Jartha, Ogs dressed as cultist, Kex dressed as cultist. It’s dusk, early evening. We can see a small fire a few trees away – not a roaring fire. Kex sneaks over to fire to check it out. Steps on a twig, keeps moving forward. Not sensing much. Hears a large grunt and heavy footprints. Sees a large creature stomp on the fire – Kex retreats. Rest of group can hear stomps, see trees shaking. We all hide under various trees and a troll appears.
We all hide well enough. Troll retreats to fire, relights fire. We’re all in different trees. Ogelsby picks up a rock, makes it glow. Troll moves towards us. We fight! Various fighting tactics, Kex was on the troll’s back. Kex splits him in two and Ogs firebolts him to death.
Turns out troll was wearing a green arm band. We are able to somehow fashion a trolls hand/forearm as a digging trowel. We put out the fire and ready to go into the cave. Lux puts blood on himself. Ogs is fake cultist wizard controlling Jartha who is in the suit of red armor and is escorting Lux as Jartha and Kex is a cultist. Lux throws some ball bearings on the ground at the entrance as a trip up trap. Ogs casts alarm at entrance. We go in, hear some things, light in the distance.
We come up on a few people around a fire and we say we’ve got the prisoner. Hails are exchanged. They’re keeping guard over the treasure. There’s a chest/sundries etc. Guards say theyre going to take prisoner through tunnel to their commander. Kex tries to say he’s our prisoner come on. They win him over. They ask about Gent – we say he was killed. One woman rushes Lux/Jartha. Kex slaps Lux. Ogs says don’t worry we exacted revenge and burned all of The Butcher’s acquaintances. Dolden says some things about wanted compensation, Lux spits at him. Dolden hits Lux with the butt of his sword. Dolden wants to look good and bring Jartha in. Ogs asks for reward and says come with us. There’s an argument about who get what prize. We find out that Dolden is drunk and get him to back down. He’s hammered – is sorry, shows us where chest is and where to go. Kex gives him some sleeping tips.
They open treasure chest – big whole with very little in it – guts are missing. Kex yells at Dolden – who is legit dumbfounded. Says he heard grinding. Kex gets a healing potion. Ogs takes two pieces of platinum. Jartha pushes Dolden into the empty chest! He gets wedged in halfway down – legs flailing and we hear him get attacked by some sort of monster and he dies.
Fight starts, one of the guards grabs LuxJartha. Jartha finally gets to use action surge. LuxJartha fumbles his sword and the guard takes it. Then later Ogs uses mage hand to return the confiscated sword back in the hands of LuxJartha.
Red attempts to rip off helm of LuxJartha – who the hell are you?! She things something is afoot. Jartha kills one of the guards by chopping his head off and pushing the corpse in the chest.
We pretty much kill everyone and put them in the chest or the fire.
We keep moving into the cave – find a whole. Kex goes in – it stinks like dead human. Ogelsby goes, lights up a rock. We all go down. We hear sounds of the treasure eating monster. We go back up. We find huge piles of skulls. All sorts of skulls. Pile begins to shake and vibrate! Oglesby blows away the skulls!
TWO GIANT SKELETON SNAKES BURST FORTH FROM THE PILE OF BONES.
After a long fight, we win. We find a giant shield made of bone and a small ball of metal bands. It’s heavy. Jartha takes shield, Lux takes metal ball.
Details on metal ball:
This rusty iron sphere measures 3 inches in diameter and weighs 1 pound. You can use an action to speak the command word and throw the sphere at a Huge or smaller creature you can see within 60 feet of you. As the sphere moves through the air, it opens into a tangle of metal bands.
Make a ranged attack roll with an attack bonus equal to your Dexterity modifier plus your proficiency bonus. On a hit, the target is restrained until you take a bonus action to speak the command word again to release it. Doing so, or missing with the attack, causes the bands to contract and become a sphere once more.
A creature, including the one restrained, can use an action to make a DC 20 Strength check to break the iron bands. On a success, the item is destroyed, and the restrained creature is freed. If the check fails, any further attempts made by that creature automatically fail until 24 hours have elapsed.
Once the bands are used, they can’t be used again until the next dawn.
Potentially 10/13 as next!
